Abstract

Background: The growth of the industrial sector in Indonesia has also increased the challenges of occupational health, particularly related to work stress, which can potentially impact blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between work stress levels and blood pressure among industrial workers. Methods: This research uses a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted in Semarang Regency, from December 2024 to January 2025. A total of 100 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Job Stress Scale questionnaire and blood pressure measurements with a digital sphygmomanometer. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using simple linear regression and Pearson correlation tests. Results: The average age of the respondents was 25.26 years, and the average work duration was 1.72 years. The average work stress score was 66.93, and the average blood pressure was 118.11 mmHg. The linear regression test results showed no significant relationship between work stress and blood pressure (p = 0.496), with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.069 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.005. Conclusion: This study indicates that work stress is not a significant predictor of blood pressure among young industrial workers with relatively short work duration. Further research with a longitudinal design and a physiological biomarker approach is needed to better understand the impact of work stress on blood pressure.
